WHAT IS TRICHOSCALE®?

It is a scalp scanner based on an initial concept developed by Dr. Bouhanna (phototrichogram).

WHEN IS TRICHOSCALE® PERFORMED?

When you are considering a hair loss treatment or are about to have a hair transplant. This examination can also be performed in case of suspicion of abnormalities in the hair cycle.

WHAT IT IS FOR?

Trichoscale® measures both hair loss volume and the proportion of diseased hair.  It is also used after a treatment to assess its impact on hair loss.

Please note that a trichoscopy is the preferred method of determining the cause of a hair loss.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Trichoscale® measures:

  • the surface, the volume and the density of the hair
  • the average length of hair
  • the anagen / telogen ratio (ratio of hair growth and death)
  • the number and density of vellus and terminal hair
  • the thickness of the hair
  • the number of follicular units (which is useful in anticipation of a hair transplant)
  • the number of hairs per follicular unit

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The biologist shaves and dyes a small area of the scalp (about one centimeter in diameter).

He then takes a microscopic photo, in reflected light, of the area which is then magnified up to 20 times. To obtain the anagen / telogen ratio, he will take a second snapshot of this area 48 hours after shaving.

The photos are then analyzed using software specialized in cutaneous imaging. This software will automatically calculate the different parameters analyzed, which will then be used as a basis for the final diagnosis,  confirmed by Dr. Bouhanna.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

  • The procedure is painless and lasts 20-30 minutes
  • It is important that you do not to wash your hair in the 48 hours before your appointment; nor should you brush your hair the day before or the day of your appointment
