TRICHOSCOPY: WHAT IS IT?

A trichoscopy is a non-invasive diagnosis of hair problems. Photos of the scalp and hair are taken by video dermoscopy. These photos are then analyzed by artificial intelligence software, which will measure parameters such as density, diameter or number of follicular units. It is on this basis that a final diagnosis will be made by an expert physician.

WHEN SHOULD YOU HAVE A TRICHOSCOPY?

When there is a change in your hair, whether it is general or localized, sudden or chronic hair loss.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A TRICHOSCOPY?

A trichoscopy helps determine the cause of hair loss and measure the impact of treatment on hair loss.

WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR?

A trichoscopy measures seven criteria:

  • the average number of hairs
  • the average thickness of the hair shaft
  • the percentage of fine, medium and thick hair in the hair
  • the percentage of single, double, triple follicular units …
  • the number of empty hair follicles / yellow spots
  • the cumulative thickness of the hair
  • the number of follicular units

HOW DOES A TRICHOSCOPY WORK?

The examination is conducted by a biologist specialized in video dermoscopy, a skin imaging technique that can magnify the areas photographed, up to 70 times.

He takes several images of the scalp and hair in the three main areas of the head; the frontal zone (front), the temporal zone (sides) and the occipital zone (back).

The photos are then analyzed by computer using recognition and artificial intelligence algorithms that accurately measure the various desired parameters.

The final diagnosis is confirmed by Dr. Pierre Bouhanna.
