Less invasive than other grafting techniques, the FUE procedure does not use a scalpel and removes follicular units one by one using circular micro-punches whose diameter does not exceed 0.9mm. This technique has become very popular because it does not leave a scar on the sampling area, as can be the case with the FUSS technique.

Its main advantage is the extension of the donor zone from 30% to 50%, which makes it possible to increase the number of possible transplants. The number future applications of the FUSS technique are limited by the size of the strip, because the zone quickly becomes weakened and yields fewer grafts. FUE has the advantage of not being limited to the crown area and can therefore support more grafts.

The operation is very mild and therefore takes place under local anesthesia. This is made painless by the prior application of anesthetic cream.

The first step is shaving the donor area; in general, shaving must be complete, although there is a version where shaving is not required.

This step isolates and chooses the best available grafts and isolates the selected follicles without yet extracting them from the donor area.

The grafts are extracted one by one with the help of a micro-clamp. Once extracted, they will be preserved in saline solution and then checked and sorted before implantation.

Very small incisions will be made to the treatment site to prepare the skin for graft implantation. This step is crucial and determines the final result of the graft: the incisions are made very close together to create a natural effect and take angle into account, which will determine the direction of hair regrowth.

#6 IMplantation

The follicles are irregularly implanted one by one in the incisions to create a natural effect. This step is carried out in several sessions, with 1000 to 5000 hairs implanted in each session.

The traces of the intervention fade after ten days and the site will resume its normal appearance in 15 to 20 days. The grafted hair will fall out after 15 days and will grow back completely after 12 months.

The final results will be visible after one year, once the regrowth of the new hair is complete.

When to choose FUE with shaving?

The FUE technique hair transplants is especially recommended for patients who shave their heads, who have good capillary density and who do not have too much evolutionary androgenetic alopecia.

It is thus recommended in the following cases:

  • Average male and female androgenic alopecia
  • Tight scalp
  • Patients who do not wish to have a strip of hair removed surgically

  • The small round scars on the sample area are almost imperceptible to the naked eye and heal in a few days after the procedure.
  • There are no sutures
  • It also allows the aesthetic and definitive correction of  alopecia.

  • Importantly, each implanted hair is permanently removed from the collection area.
  • The sampling becomes increasingly random at any subsequent sessions.
  • It is a technique that is often not recommended for women because of the low density of hair in the donor area and the shaving necessary for the procedure.
